ISTHA Tolling and Intelligent Transportation System, Elgin O'Hare Western Access

JWI as a subconsultant performed construction management services and was responsible for technology related items. Our responsibilities included, but were not limited to overseeing and documenting the installation and testing of corridor wide fiber optic, power duct and power cable as well as managing submittal reviews and answering RFI’s. JWI was also involved with documenting the installation and testing of corridor wide intelligent transportation system (ITS) elements, including HD CCTVs, roadway sensors, roadway weather information system and DMS Type I/IIs.

PROJECT BACKGROUND

The installation and testing of the prefabricated toll facilities involved the installation of tolling, network switches, security devices, generator, fiber communications and all other equipment that make a tolling facility functional within the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority (ISTHA) system. JWI oversaw the installation and testing of Roadway LED lighting and led the coordination of site specific commissioning, integration and testing of the corridor’s ITS elements. JWI also provided support for civil and electrical related construction issues and took over project controls midway through the project to assist the prime consultant. Professional engineering services included coordination of  the contractor work, submittals, RFI’s, change orders, extra work orders, organization of progress meetings, and monthly reports as well as the documentation of daily activities, issues, pay estimates, materials, material testing and construction issue resolution.
