February Project Spotlight: North Terminal at John Glenn Columbus International Airport

Construction keeps moving – no matter the temperature!

As our airports continue to modernize and expand, collaboration between airlines, designers, and technical teams is essential to creating terminals that operate as efficiently behind the scenes as they do for travelers. Successful terminal development starts with thoughtful programming and coordination to ensure every airline’s operational needs are built into the design from day one.

This is where JWI’s Planning & Design Department comes in! We are currently supporting the new North Terminal Development at John Glenn Columbus International Airport by assisting with Airline Technical Representative (ATR) services as we move steadily toward the terminal’s opening in January 2029.

As a subconsultant to JWI was responsible for surveying existing conditions, developing drawing packages, and programming airline lease spaces for more than 10 airlines. Our team has led coordination meetings with airline stakeholders to understand current operations and future space requirements, ensuring ticketing, holdroom, and back-of-house areas are planned for efficiency and growth.

JWI continues to support the project on an on-call basis, preparing exhibits for ongoing coordination between airlines and the Columbus Regional Airport Authority (CRAA) during the design phase. Additionally, JWI has provided third-party design reviews at key project milestones to ensure alignment with airline requirements.

Our partners at AvAirPros captured this great progress shot of the new North Terminal, featuring the emerging head house entrances.

As the future of air travel continues to evolve, JWI is grateful for the opportunities to work with such great partners like AvAirPros to deliver efficient terminals that enhance your passenger experience.
