Breaking Ground on the Future of O’Hare. July’s Project Spotlight is groundbreaking – literally!
JWI is the Program Manager for the Fuel System Improvement Program (FSIP) at Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD). Our team oversees critical upgrades to the airport’s existing fuel system, aligning with current EPA standards and leveraging new technology. These efforts include the relocation of transmission fuel piping and related appurtenances impacted by the multi-billion-dollar ORD 21 Program.
The Lower C Fuel Reroute is a part of the FSIP and is the first in-ground project for the new Satellite 1 Concourse at ORD. In just five months, this $6 million, fast-tracked fuel infrastructure upgrade will reroute the existing 24” single main that currently feeds Concourse C. In its place, we’re installing dual 12” fuel mains, future-proofing the system to serve both Concourse C and the upcoming Satellite 1.
The project includes the FSIP’s first-ever above-ground fuel manifold building, new mains, high and low points, and significant civil infrastructure. It’s a bold step forward in modernizing fuel operations, ensuring long-term reliability and operational continuity for one of the nation’s busiest airports.
