National Safety Stand-Down for Fall Protection

On May 1st, Renee Guandique, Safety Manager at JWI, and The MLIT Safety team hosted the second National Safety Stand-Down for Fall Protection event in Houston!

The Mickey Leland International Terminal (MLIT) Project at the George Bush International Airport (IAH) is supporting the growth of IAH. It includes the reconstruction and integration of the existing Terminal C North and Terminal D into a new single common-use international facility. JWI is performing Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) services, along with Project Management and Safety Management services.

These Stand-Down events were created by OSHA in 2012 to bring further awareness to fall hazards in the workplace in an effort to stop fall fatalities and injuries. The topics covered in this event were the hazards associated with scaffolding, ladders, scissor lifts, proper anchor points, types of fall protection, proper harness selection, and inspections. Renee discussed the statistics she found for the past three years in construction that show a rising trend in fall fatalities in the workplace.

We are also proud to add that we are now 15 months in on this project with no injuries or recordable incidents. Great job, team!
