Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) I-90 at I-290/Congress Parkway Eastbound Jane Byrne Interchange Reconstruction

Overview

JWI provided phase III construction management and inspection services for the I-290 Eastbound bridge over I-90/94 part of the Jane Byrne Interchange Reconstruction project. The reconstruction of the Jane Byrne Interchange was a massive project, which included every bridge and overpass on the 90/94 at 290/Congress Parkway junction. The scope of work included the construction of a new concrete retaining wall along the south side of Congress Parkway (inbound, west of Canal Street) and the removal, replacement and reconstruction of a new bridge structure over I-90/94 with a change in the roadway and bridge profile to increase vertical clearance over I-90/94. The Congress Parkway Viaduct involved the rehabilitation of the existing viaduct from I-90/94 to the west edge of the existing Post Office building in the inbound direction, bridge deck patching and repairs, deck replacement and superstructure replacement of the specified bridge unit. Additionally, all lighting, ITS and drainage work was completed as needed.

As Lead Inspectors, JWI inspected and administered pay item tickets for daily work performed. We coordinated with multiple contractors on-site to account for materials and labor kept communication lines open with all parties. In addition, JWI formulated Inspection Daily Reports, Daily Activity Reports, and confirmed all work was met with proper documentation for the duration of the project.
