Metra Fiber Construction Management

JWI is performing field support engineering, construction management, and inspection services for the Metra Fiber Construction Management project, which involves upgrading new fiber optic cable installed on the Rock Island and South West Service lines.

We’re proud to be part of this project, which involves 2-inch micro duct technology, brand-new to our contractors and our industry. Our services include overseeing the testing of newly installed fiber, including Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) approval testing. Because the micro duct is fragile and requires great precision, JWI managed the troubleshooting and location of damaged ductwork and ensured that total corrective action was taken.

This project will provide more excellent reliability in transmission for Metra’s signaling systems, increase safety along the rails and at crossings, and pave the way for camera installations at 300 rail crossings and line depots.
